DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Dates: Summer 2013: June 17-24
Where: Higuey, Dominican Republic
Daily Activities: Groups, along with their respective group leaders, will be assigned interpreters and transport vehicles/drivers and will journey to local villages and barrios (communities) where they will spend the greater part of their day ministering from house to house, sharing the Gospel and distributing food and clothing to the needy. Some teams will also have the opportunity to share in local schools, marketplaces, nursing homes and more. At Alive2Love we believe that as you meet people’s physical needs, your earn the right to meet their spiritual needs as well!
Evening Activities: During the evenings, groups will be assigned to the various local churches to minister to their congregations and leaders. This is a special time to pour into the lives of those who lead the community! Most group leaders will have the opportunity to preach and the group members will support as they experience how other cultures worship the Lord. The week will culminate with a two-night mass crusade event, hosted by Grace & Glory Ministries and participated in by the entire team, the local churches, with the aim being the unreached community of Higüey. Miracles, signs, and wonders will take place- the greatest of those being the miracle of salvation!
Stats & Facts: Dominican Republic: The Dominican Republic is part of an island in the Caribbean called Hispaniola, which is shared with Haiti. The national language is Spanish. Of its 10 million residents, 95% percent of the population professes to be Roman Catholic. Over 34% of Dominicans live below the poverty line. The inequality gap between the rich and the poor is painfully noticeable. Of the 14% who are unemployed, nearly one third are between the ages of 15-24. Long-standing challenges include the influx of illegal migrants from Haiti; other issues include international drug trafficking and money laundering.
